Aliya Sharafi sings Ghazals, Old Bengali Songs and Hindi Film Songs

A student of ‘chayanat’ at Bulbul Academy, Aliya’s first playback song was in the film ‘Sootarang’ in 1962 which won her the President’s award at the young age of 12. Then followed Kagojer Nouka, Gunai Bibi and Soye Nadia Jage Pani. Aliya was trained in classical music by Phool Mohammed and Srimati Girija Devi Padmasree, padmabhushan (Benaras Gharana). She trained in Praacheen Bangla Gaan (200 years old Bengali songs) with Sri Chandi Das Mal in Kolkata. Aliya has been performing in North America, Europe and Canada since 1992. She has also been involved in Bangladeshi theatre. Aliya is the first Bangladeshi singer to sing in the Lincoln Centre on Broadway, New York.

Aliya sharafi is a great singer.
I still remember her song "emon moja hoina". In my early age I used to sing this song. Now my daughter sings the song.

Aliya Sharafi and Shahjahan Kamal will be performing at the Chinese Cultural Centre, Toronto, Canada on Oct 29, 2007.
ALIYA SHARAFI will sing ghazal, thumri, dadra and prachin bangla song while SHAHJAHAN KAMAL will sing Rabindra Sangeet and some D L Roy and Rajaninkanto's song.

The musical show took place at Chinese Cultural Centre, Toronto. The program started at 7:00 pm as scheduled. Shahjahan Kamal performed at the first half. He sang Rabindra Sangeet, D L Roy, Rajani Kanta and Nazrul's song while Aliya sang Ghazal, Dadra, Thumri and Prachin Bangla song.
Pandit Ramesh Misra from New York, USA accompanied both singers with Sarangi, Tobla by Ravi Naimpally and Dolan Sinha Roy. Also Tanpura by Dev Chakraborty and Mondira by Alok Mukherjee, sound by Ashikuzzaman Tulu.
