Green Fingered Nadia strikes Gold

10 year Nadia Khan, a Tower Hamlets resident has come good by winning a Marie Curie Cancer Care competition.

The budding gardener joined thousands in entering a competition titled Mini Pots of Care - an exciting Marie Curie Cancer Care initiative for schools and groups, in partnership with Yellow Pages.

Nadia’s design was chosen to be featured on the Yellow Pages sponsored ‘mini pots of care’ national leaflet. Nadia’s cousin Nabila, 7 said; “I’m really proud of my cousin. She’s very artistic and her art is so cool.”Nadia’s parents are “delighted” with her success.

Over 239,000 children from schools and groups across the country have been busy planting their own daffodil bulbs in time to watch them bloom for the spring and summer.

Children are being encouraged to fundraise in support of their Mini Pot of Care.
At the time of planting, they'll be given a donation envelope to take home.
Mini Pots of Care is a fun and creative way for pupils (aged 3 to 11 years) to learn all about science and nature whilst making a positive difference to the lives of people with cancer.

World exclusive - Man City sign Rolando

Own up Sven. Was it a publicity stunt to go one up on your rivals?

Is that a typo on the title? Not since Denis Law donned the famous Sky Blue shirt has there been so much excited anticipation. Rumours from the Terry Christian Man City benevolent Fund headquarters abound that Sven has just pulled off a big name foreign signing. Conflicting rumours are also speading that our favourite Swede made a huge mistake and that he actually asked the money men to check Ronaldo's availability. Yes, the Brazilian superstar and all round darling of masses around the world and possibly the Portugese maestro down the road as well.

What he ended up with was Rolando Bianchi. The Italian hitman was the fourth best striker in Serie A last season as his 18 goals helped secure top flight football for Reggina. Bianchi now has an oustanding opportunity to fill the illustrious boots of City greats; Georgios Samaras and Bernado Corradi. If he fails to impress then Sven's big name foreign signing will quickly turn into the (flop) foreign signing with a big name.

Terry, King, Ferdinand and Carragher must be quaking in their boots at the thought of Bianchi and his prospective partnership with the irrepressible Marlon Harewood.

Happy days are here. Roll on the Premiership.

Misplaced revenge?

This was the aftermath of an attack on an Asian shop in the Riddrie area of Glasgow yesterday. Someone reverse-rammed a car into the premises and set it on fire. It seems like a copycat revenge attack after what happened at Glasgow Airport.

More pictures here. There has been hardly any media coverage of this. I heard from the PA that this has happened, but the way that it was being spoken about was that it was a relatively minor incident. When I got there, they were demolishing the building.

Rally Against Terrorism

SCOTLAND UNITED AGAINST TERROR

Saturday 7 July 1.30pm
George Square, Glasgow

After the atrocious attack on Glasgow Airport on Saturday 30th June, communities across Scotland will stand united against the scourge of terrorism in all forms.

Show your support and take a stand against terror at George Square on Saturday. A significant day as it will be the second anniversary of the London Tube bombings and one week anniversary of the attacks on Glasgow Airport.

We will be remembering all the victims of terror and standing shoulder to shoulder with members of all faith communities, church leaders, trade unions, the Scottish Executive and the people of Scotland.

At a time when there are those who wish to divide us we must come together to show that there is only one division; the terrorists and everyone else – people of faith, non-faith, of all colours, races and genders.

THE 99 NOW AVAILABE TO READERS EVERYWHERE

Young readers will be able to download entire issues of THE 99 from anywhere with an Internet connection, an arrangement that especially benefits those who live in more remote regions without access to stores carrying physical issues of the award-winning comic. Qmags, which also publishes electronic versions of major magazines like Success, Computer, Software and Down Beat, will distribute full-color, high quality digital copies of THE 99 on a monthly basis through its online newsstand.

"Because THE 99 was designed to appeal to young people all over the world, we've had inquiries from numerous countries about where to purchase THE 99," said Al-Mutawa. "Now, using the innovative services and technology that Qmags offers, children and parents can download full issues of THE 99 anywhere on Earth."

"We're excited that Teshkeel has decided to publish THE 99 electronically through our service," added TK. "We pride ourselves on distributing quality publications to a worldwide audience, and we're very pleased to include THE 99 in our family of titles, particularly since it has proven to be a positive influence on children throughout the world."

In addition to its original comic book series, THE 99, Teshkeel publishes Arabic versions of DC, Marvel, and Archie comics in the Middle East and North Africa. "Distributing THE 99 digitally with Qmags is another big step in bringing our positive message to an even wider audience," said Al-Mutawa.
