Stepney FC - more than a football club

An adventure that surfed the Ocean
On strong tides swept Stepney FC
Picking pace with harmonic motion
Rippling strength for the community

Alan with the promotion launch pad
Then the star who was the scourge of the goal
Prayers for the thirty goal Amjad
May God have mercy on his soul

David Joseph combines new and old
Relegation meant no prize bouquet
It's time for the club to go bold
Forid goes zonal with keep ball play

With Zaa technically directing
Unbeaten title season so pivotal
Lord Mayor's Cup added to the bling
Sonai's men with the millennium title

Thrashing Beaumont five nil at Chelsea
Ken Bates impressed immensely
Much highs and lows aplenty
A long way since nineteen ninety three

Every little helps

The right pinhole light winked. I was getting very frustrated at getting barred. Swipe, swipe, swipe until I realised my error. I calmly took a picture. The lady behind me asked: "all ok luv?" I explained my moment of folly. "You won't get extra points doing that loov," she laughed...

New Beefeater joins the Tower of London:

Interview with Yeoman Warder Clive Towell

Name: Clive Towell
Age: 44
Marital status: Single with long term partner Sheena Lott
Family:  Two daughters –Sophie aged 14 and Mollied aged 12

Living: I am from Cheltenham Gloucester but have been in the Army since the age of 16. I live with Sheena in Horley, Surrey. We are both looking forward to moving into the Tower once my probation period has finished in 6 months.

Which regiments did you serve with?  I have served with the Kings Royal Hussars for almost my full career of 29 years. I started off as a Trooper and finished a Regimental Sergeant Major. I then went on and became the first Household Cavalry and Royal Armoured Corps Sergeant Major, a position I held for 2 years.

How many years in military service?
29

Where have you been stationed? UK, Northern Ireland, Germany, Canada, Belize, Bosnia, Iraq and France

What role did you do prior to becoming a Yeoman Warder? I was the Senior Recruiter at ACIO Bromley

How does it feel to be appointed a Yeoman Warder? I am very proud to have been selected as a Yeoman Warder, I am looking forward to serving for the next 20 years’ish! I found out about the role from serving Yeoman Warder’s at the Tower. The recruitment procedure took about three months and was a very fair process.

What are your first impressions of life as a Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London? Life is good at the Tower, it’s great working with the public and outdoors. I have a great deal to learn over the next six months, but it all seems to be settling down well.

Have you moved in to your home at the Tower of London? What is it like? Not yet, I have to serve out a probation period first

How are you finding living in Central London? I love it there is so much to see and do

What will you be doing over the next few weeks? Working on my Tour trying to learn the script!

Umrah 2012

We travelled to Saudi for Umrah and for ten whole days and nights were able to savour the sheer brilliance of Makkah as well as the magnificence that the golden city of Madinah has to offer.

The weather was very hot but bearable. The Umrah excursions, circumabulating the Ka’abah and marching between Safa and Marwa provided us with not only a spiritual boost but a thorough and much needed spiritual boost.

We also toured the three mountain peaks in Makkah – Jabal Noor, Thawr and Rahmah.  Jabal Noor was the sanctum of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the place of His devotions and meditations and the sacred spot where the Holy Quran began to be revealed. The Cave is situated on mount Al-Noor on the way to Mina near Makkah and its peak is visible from a great distance. Muhammad (peace be upon him) visited frequently, when during a night in the month of Ramadan the first 5 verses of the Surah Al-Alaque were revealed to him.

Jabal Thawr is the cave that provided sanctuary for the Prophet (peace be upon him), and his companion Abu Bakr (RA).

Jabal Rahmah is the Mount of mercy - This is the place where Adam and Eve met after leaving heaven.

Other highlights included visiting Mina, and the kids quad biking at Jabal Rahmah. The Makkah clock tower was a striking sight but most definitely a distracting and overbearing influence which totally dominated the skyline.

The crowds were sparse and at most times we were able to roam An amazing experience which I pray we can repeat next year. Our stay in Golden Madinah was short and we hope to stay a few days extra next time round.

My travel providers were superb throughout and I got a very good travel deal and hospitality from Madinah travels, Unit 3, 86, Brick Lane, London, E1 6RL - 020 3246 0020. If you are looking for a budget deal then do contact these guys to make enquiries. A big thank you goes out to Rajon and Liblu for making our stay as pleasant as possible.

Here are some of our highlights…
