Torchbearer visit to school

I will be at Woolmore school this morning. I'm working but at some point I'm taking some time out to pose for torchbearer pics with kids and staff to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support & the world's biggest coffee morning. A voluntary £1 contribution would be gratefully accepted. 100% goes to Macmillan...

UPDATE:

Our collective vigour helped raise a whopping £400:00. Well done to everyone for a mammoth effort.

Totò Schillachi - Bolt from the Blue

Leapt between two against Austria
"You'll score," said Tacconi
Eternal City with a mass cheer
Rome salutes Toto Schillachi

Watching the Palermo boy fly
Heading the Czechs a swift death wish
Swerving drive against Uruguay
Uppercut to Big jack's Irish

Play off against England did proud
Fleeting hero who made a breakthrough
Arms outstretched he milked the crowd
Toto the bolt from the blue

Azeglio Vicini's much fancied Azzurri
Just short of World Cup glory
Baggio's magic adding such memory
Le Notti Magiche di Totò Schillaci

Hillsborough remembered as lucky Devils make Reds pay penalty

Liverpool 1-2 Man Utd

Suarez shakes off the hostility
For a while enmity is put to bed
Poignant gesture from Sir Bobby
Rushie accepting for Hillsborough’s dead

Grand play from the Anfield men
But Jonjo packed off by ref Halsey
Spirits raised by that man again
Goal from the cousin of Gilhooley

Rafael and Van Persie strike back
Fergie's men steady the guy rope
New look Reds will be back on track
This season still holds much hope

Claudia Nicoleitzik at London 2012

An hour after winning the Bronze in the Women's 100m - T36 I was very fortunate to spot, recognise and have a quick chat with Germany's Claudia Nicoleitzik as she and her cohort were heading out of the Olympic Park...

Claudia competed in the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, and the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London.

In 2008 she won a silver medal in the women's 100 metres - T36 event and a silver medal in the women's 200 metres - T36 event.

Prior to this medal Claudia had a won a bronze medal in the women's 200 metres - T36 event.

A thoroughly decent person with a calm and affable manner, I'm delighted for her success and wish her the very best for the future.

Oscar Pistorius storms to London 2012 Paralympic Gold

With the Olympic Park and Stadium at bursting point, I was there to savour an amazing
experience on the final night of the greatest Paralympic Games in history.

The crowd got what the crowd had always wanted as track icon Oscar Pistorius clocked 46.68 seconds and victoriously signed off an electric last night of track events at the Olympic Stadium.

The T44 400m final was described as a grudge match. Pistorius demolished Alan Fonteles Cardoso Oliveira, the Brazilian whose blades he had questioned after the 200m final.

The darling of the Paralympics had surrendered two of his holding titles in "spectacular" style during the London games and vowed to restore normality.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. The "Blade Runner," described by Sebastian Coe as the father of the Paralympic movement, and who has raised the profile of disabled athletes to unprecedented levels, stormed the field to produce one of the paramount moments of the summer of 2012.

Showkhin of Southend

On invitation I visited Southend on Sea to spend an evening enjoying the seaside sunset and a great culinary experience at Showkhin.

Fish and chips may be the given food fare in Southend but there is a vibrant curry scene for visitors and locals who fancy a bit of spice.

I was able to assist in the kitchen with Tandoori Rotis and food packing. Shahel, Hannan and I even took a delivery out to a house party, earning a £3.50 tip.

The delivery driver returned with a handwritten note on the receipt he had just served. It read: “A very satisfied customer here, can’t wait to try the dessert.”

As an eatery Showkhin serves both contemporary and exotic Indian food and cuisines Authentic dishes are twinned with modern finishing touches and the venue offers delicious tastes that will delight and tantalise the taste buds.

Showkhin deserves wider recognition and the Chef’s delicately refined South Asian classics are guaranteed to ensure many happy customers.

Blind football at the London 2012 Paralympics

France 0-0 China

Shades and looks of Robert Pires
Star man Frederic Villeroux
"I'll sweep up," Maya say's
As the fans screamed Allez Les Bleus

China with the great Zhang LJ
Matched the French in a tough game
Faced with such fierce game play
Dragons deserved such loud acclaim

Baron and Zheng enter the fray
French flow free as the Loire
Eyeshades cause ripples in the Nikkei
With calmness and complete sang-froid

Blind football at the London 2012 Paralympics

Brazil 4-0 Turkey

Went to watch the jingle bell ball
Captivated in awe all day long
Knockout tackles saw billboards fall
Think Pirlo paired with De Jong

Double Golds sink Turkey without trace
It's blind football at the Riverbank Arena
Golden boy Jefinho smashes a brace
With the poise of a skilled ballerina

When Ricardinho jinked and wowed
Pin drop hush and a silent wall
Not your raucous football crowd
Saw Jefinho hit the hundredth goal
