World record smashed by a right Pratt

“Take that Knowles”, Chippenham’s finest roared
Three seconds all it took to topple a world record

And David Pratt gained the earliest red card ever
One that very well may stand tall forever

Knocking Giuseppe Lorenzo off the top berth
Feat many felt wouldn’t be matched again on earth

Achieved in the playground Calcio in the year 1990
The Bologna star’s 10 seconds now appear an eternity

A thrust straight out of Hell’s half acre
What Bashley gaffer Riley called "a potential leg-breaker”

Scene evocative of scores on Hackney Marsh
Though Plumber Pratt insisted the red card was harsh

"I felt hard done by the ref's decision but he thinks it’s a red card”
To be fair the lunge could have left the beneficiary scarred

Someone could have ended plastered and padded
“So I have to take it," a wistful Pratty added

Name etched in history by the time we’d sat for tea
Insistent, "The world record is not a big deal for me”

With Christmas the season of merry and much love
He spoke, “Its not something that I'm proud of"

C’mon Ref get it on and let’s call it quits
Three seconds! Who needs fames 15 minutes

El Nene Cubillas

“Nene” the babe most prolific
Unheard of till 1970
Then ten strikes in two world cups
Made Copa Mundial history

Not until Miroslav Klose
Had such a feat been achieved
Gazelles’s grace and rapping shot
With utmost close control he weaved

South America’s footballer of the year
Tickertaper hurrah in 72
Latin American champ of 75
With the ball firmly stuck to his shoe

A beautiful brace in the semi
Smash and grab with the till
Grand theft met Italian job
To knock off the boys from Brazil

From Alianza Lima to Basel
Porto too fell along the trail
Florida sharks and the Miami sun
And George Best at Fort Lauderdale

Splendid hat trick in 7 minutes
Los Angeles Aztecs the sorry victims
Sombre swansong at Espana 82
As Peru’s orchestra dedicated hymns
