The hordes turned out en masse to honour their hero. There is no doubt that though Gerrard and Torres command worldwide acclaim, 23 Carra Gold is in a different league with the local Liverpool support. A brilliant servant for the club, the Liverpool legend has donated every penny of his entitled gate receipts from the game to help local charities. An apt gesture from a true lionheart. I thoroughly enjoyed the long trip, atmosphere, fanfare and was happy to part with 2 hundred squid in the club shop.
Carra is hoping to raise £1 million from the match and a dinner, with all proceeds going to charity. He was grateful that the F.A allowed Stevie G to appear.
"A big thank you to the people at the FA because it is not easy as they had two massive games - but I think it helped they won last night," he added.
"He is the best player I've ever played with so I'm delighted he was involved.
"England always have to do a warm-down the day after so that was his warm-down."
Carra fulfilled a lifetime ambition to score for his beloved boyhood club Everton, hiting home an own goal penalty. In a post match PA interview, Carragher explained the penalty, saying: "As an Everton fan as a kid I've always dreamed about scoring against Liverpool so that is why I did that."
There were appearances from best mate Michael Owen, the very popular Jerzy Dudek, Luis Garcia and one of my all time favourites - Gary McAllister.
We'd like to say a massive thank you to my friend Bootle Jan (Janet Hodge) for facilitating this. We are very grateful.
