In late November Tom died in an accident involving a car on the busy Westferry Road.
Everybody who’s anybody knows that MP Jim Fitzpatrick’s calls for a 20 mph speed limit, has been an absolute necessity for a long time.
Jim’s written to the council and also called on Transport Minister Philip Hammond to put the limit on all urban roads.
Speaking to the Wharf the Poplar & Limehouse MP said: "I recognise the devastating effect that road deaths have on the families involved and on the winder community.
"It's a problem that can, and must, be tackled through individuals making a commitment to slowing down in the community."
Following the accident, the crash scene has been awash with flowers and moving tributes. Relatives and friends also set up a facebook tribute page.
More than 1,000 people attended Tom’s funeral at the City of London Crematorium in Manor Park, with 150 waiting outside.
I didn’t know him or his family personally but was able to gauge the feeling of the community after having spoken to Al Madina Mosque worshippers, situated across from the crash scene.
Through my conversations at the Mosque it became clear that Tom was a very popular lad. Mosque goers had either known him personally or had children of his age who had grown up with him.
One thing is certain - He will be sorely missed.
I hope readers will join me in extending our sympathy and condolences to Tom’s family and pray that they find peace with time.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the Road Death Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath on 020 8597 4874.
