HEADTEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR TOWER HAMLETS MUSLIM SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

EMDAD RAHMAN

Abdulhadi Mamon, the Headteacher of London Islamic School (LIS), a Muslim Secondary school for Boys, situated at Esha’atul Islam Ford Square Masjid, Tower Hamlets, has been awarded the prestigious Association of Muslim School’s (AMS) ‘Headteacher of the year award 2010.’

Sponsored by Al-Furqan Trust, a prestigious gala conference was attended by more than 400 delegates, senior educationalists and trainers, held at Madani High School, Leicester.

The Association of Muslim School (AMS) is the UK Muslim Schools hub who work to support and develop excellence in UK Muslim Schools, they have over 100 national member schools so to achieve this award is great significance and importance to the school, pupils, borough and community at large. The awards were judged by a panel of senior Muslim educationalists including an Ofsted Inspector who followed four critical points; one, how the school meets the governments Every Child Matters (ECM) agenda; two, the most recent Ofsted inspection report; three, contextual value added on pupils within the Headteachers tenure and four, progressive improvements in GCSE and SATs results. Mamon excelled vastly in all four contexts. It was noted that despite a lack of resources available in the school, facility constraints and restricted decision making powers, the development of the school was immense within a short five year tenure as Headteacher.

AMS UK said ‘Our judging panel deemed that Brother Abdulhadi made an exemplary contribution to the improvement of outcomes for learners. We had a good number of nominations for this award from many schools where the headteachers have transformed the governance, spirituality and achievements of the schools, having a direct impact on the learning of individual children. Brother Abdulhadi stood out in particular and the award is richly deserved May Allah Almighty accept his efforts.’

Mamon who took up the role in 2005 was overwhelmed by this and said ‘All praise is due to Allah who has honoured me with this and it is only by His will and infinite mercy that I was selected to receive this prestigious award.

‘I personally feel I do not deserve this and that there are other Muslim Headteachers all around the UK who work tirelessly seeking the pleasure of Allah and doing what the can for their schools and faith, so I accept this award on behalf of all of them. I would like to thank the board of education, LIS staff, parents, my beloved students and my wife for their support, encouragement and patience over the years for they are the true award winners.

‘Lastly I pray this is motivation for us to continue our hard work and for Allah to accept our intentions and efforts.’

The Principal Mawlana Thohur Uddin who is one of the founders of the school and part of the executive committee of the Masjid said ‘I would like to firstly congratulate Abdulhadi Mamon for this achievement. Secondly, this award has been a result of the duas of our staff, pupils, parents, board of education, executive committee and public and I would like to personally thank everyone for this’.

London Islamic School is continually growing and is now going through an expansion project of the school which is currently in the consultation and initial drawing phase after obtaining access to a new section on the 1st floor and 2nd floor. The Management request your duas that this is a success.

SUPPORTERS BACK ST GEORGE'S DAY LAUNCH OF 'I AM ENGLAND' CAMPAIGN

"Whoever you are, wherever you're from, whatever your faith, or none, we are all England," explained campaign organiser Mark Perryman at the launch of the 'I am England' campaign on St George's Day.

And backing the message Abjol Miah added "The England team is a powerful symbol of how this country has changed, not just the players, but increasingly the fans, of all races, faiths and backgrounds, something to welcome and be proud of. After this week's revelation that the fascist British National Party will be standing in this seat,

I am pleased we have a chance to show that local people will refuse to be divided by the race hate politics of the BNP."

George Galloway said: "Abjol Miah deserves great credit for this initiative, which demonstrates just how diverse England is in the 21st century.

"Racists should not be allowed to claim that England, its national teams or the English flag belong to them. With the fascists of the BNP standing in Bethnal Green and Bow to try to whip up racial division, Abjol is taking a timely stand in reminding people that the vast majority of people in the East End want a country that is at ease with itself in all its glorious mix.

"Let's all have a St George's Day marked by fun, not by bigoted fanatics."

The campaign is backed by Kick it Out, the Football Association's equality and inclusion campaign.

“Don’t Do It”

B&Q Customer incensed with "Double Standards"
Emdad Rahman

A consumer has launched a scathing attack on the B&Q Beckton store after he was refused an entitled refund on a product.

Moklisur Rahman, a regular customer at the DIY giant has called for consistency and accused the store of "double standards."

Singling out the store in Beckton, Moklis said; "I believe that Beckton B&Q operate a poor level of customer service with regards to geographical location and the general make up of their customers.”

"I believe that apart from local people these double standards are applied to the clientele that frequent the store.

“They believe we are ignorant and ill informed and treat us accordingly," he added.

"I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only unhappy customer and I would call on the head office to send in ghost customers to see for themselves. This would be an appropriate exercise for their service evaluation.

Moklis returned a Mitre Saw under the terms of his 2 year guarantee - "the staff were not aware of the returns policy, they simply refused to entertain my request, he fumed.

Moklis was initially told he would be given a number for the manufacturer. When he received no call he acquired the manufacturers number from the internet and called up. He telephoned and was told that the item was a B&Q product and the store was bound to deal with the guarantee.

“I returned to the store armed with this knowledge,” said Moklis. Customer services were not aware of the policy and Moklis called the number he had dialled earlier. Staff called and were given the same info I had been provided.

B&Q called back to say that he had used the saw excessively according to the in store hardware specialist and would not honour the guarantee.

Moklis said; "I said this was typical of Beckton B&Q and I would take this further. During our discussion one of the managers even threatened to take a picture of the product and circulate it to nearby B&Q stores, promising me that I would receive no exchange.

“His unprofessional approach displayed a total lack of respect.”

Two months later Moklis has taken the saw to the store in Lakeside. “Staff called the manager and honoured the guarantee,” said Moklis.

Moklis eventually received a full refund from the B&Q store in Lakeside. "Staff there were of a completely different calibre," he said, adding; "they were more professional, friendly and customer focussed.

“It's sad that I had to travel so far for what I consider to be my statutory right.”

“I have faced similar treatment from the store,” said Samad from Bow. They lack empathy and the staff have no people skills. This is a bad business move as it is us that pay their wages at the end of the day.”

Staff at B&Q Beckton were unavailable for comment.

B&Q is the largest home improvement and garden centre retailer in the UK and Europe and the third largest in the world.

Hammers Kopped - Liverpool 3-0 West Ham

Languid climb up into sixth place
Mere glimpses of the very best
Yossi opens in curious fashion
Diverting Gerrard’s cross off his chest

Ngog with a fierce snap shot
Whipped in from a Maxi cross
Third rebounds in off Rob Green
Greek Goliath Kyrgiakos

Reds off early to Atletico Madrid
To blame is the volcanic ash saga
West Ham remain winless at Anfield
47 years yet still no cigar

Craven three points - Liverpool 0-0 Fulham

Magnificent day when our kid got hitched
Union of Hafsa and Mustafa
Marriage ceremony of my little sis
Enchanting Princess met her Czar

Returned home sad and a little sombre
Avoided news till Match of the Day
After I wished I so hadn’t
On the day I gave my sister away

Aquilani with the pick of the chances
Schwarzer in superman mode
Thwarting Alberto’s overhead kick
Then his curler with the spring of a toad

Hodgson parked the bus at Anfield
Just maybe a dress rehearsal
Semi success means a third game
In Hamburg and the Europa final

Brum deal- Birmingham 0-0 Liverpool

Second City a thorn for all the top sides
Determined yet again to spoil all the rides

Vigourous Blues simply attack the joints
Top five yet to take max points

Redmen shuddered with nothing to unleash
Rafa thwarted by big eck McLeish

Frustrated at the St Andrews fortress
Reds with many issues to address

Two minutes after restart Gerrard wanted it most
Ridgewell then bundled in at the back post

Liverpool lose yet more ground
Left wondering if the fat lady’s frowned

Last minute win the travelling support waited
Truthfully Reds were expertly frustrated

I am England

Unlike the Shamrock Emerald Isles
Plucky Irish folk celebrate
St George stirs doubtful scorn
"Racists hero," the nervy debate

'I am England'

Liberator of stricken damsels
St George the dragon-slayer
Patron saint of England
More a multi national Mayor

'I am England'

Animal Guardian in Lithuania
In Beirut, a guard, soldier and Priest
Treasured in Catalonia
Cherished in the Middle East

'I am England'

No barriers, no blockades
Cheer Ingerland one and all
No dark shadow of racism
In the union of football

'I am England'

Celebrate the beautiful game
Glittering road show to enthral
Football the sport of the world
Belongs equally to us all

'I am England'

Football leads on unity
'I am England' rings loud and clear
To play, watch, converse openly
To live free without fear

'I am England'

Verses rouse the conscience
Puskas to tragic King Lear
Elegy links to England and St George
From the quill of the Bard Shakespeare

The game's afoot: Follow your spirit,
and upon this charge,
Cry 'God for Harry, England,
and Saint George!'

'I am England'

Wharton to Wright - Phillips
Fulfilled the schoolboy dream
Tis now the point to pen
A black English football team

'We are England'

James, Anderson, Cole, Wright
Campbell, Cunningham, Rio,
You'll never beat Des Walker
Ince, Palmer, Barnes, Defoe
