All smiles at SNC football awards


Emdad Rahman: The Brady Arts Centre was the venue for the Sports Network Councils (SNC) 13th annual awards ceremony.
 
Over 300 young people attended to celebrate their footballing achievements in front of guests from Tower Hamlets Council, including the Executive Mayor Lutfur Rahman, Cllr Aminur Khan, Cllr David Edgar, Cllr Lesley Pavitt, and Chair of the Council Motin uz Zaman.
 
On the presentation front, SOUL Football Club was the biggest gainer, taking home 6 winners and 6 runners up trophies. 
 
Ashad Ahmed picked up the under 14's player of the year with Hafiz Haque named overall player of the season. 
 
Newark under 14's took home both the league and cup double, with Foyzul Rahman presented with the player of the season trophy. 
 
Guest speakers praised the invaluable work of the SNC and promised to support the work of the organisation during this difficult financial period. 
 
"Over the last two years, the SNC has seen its funding cut by half, whilst facing rising costs for facilities and materials," said Mamun Rashid, Chair of the SNC. 
 
Rashid added: "this event was a fantastic get together, celebrating the success of young people. Now more than ever we need the support of Tower Hamlets Council to work for a better future for the boroughs young people."
 
Rashid also urged local businesses to help SNC achieve its objective of supporting young people. 
 
The Executive Mayor Lutfur Rahman, and Council Chair Motin uz Zaman thanked committee members, staff and everyone connected with SNC for their hard work and dedication over the years. 
 
The SNC has been actively engaging young people in Sports, leadership training and workshops since 1998. Through access to sports, the SNC provides opportunities for all, develops and empowers the local community and facilitates community cohesion. SNC also organises the Local football league where over hundreds of young people from the ages of 8-18 participate on a weekly basis.
