Team London Volunteers Deliver Football Tournament

A group of young people volunteering at the Bangladesh Football Association organised a 5-a-side football tournament during the festive period.

The 6 young people have been volunteering at BFA since October 2011 and wanted to do something for other young people in their community. The young people attended an Event Management course to learn the basics around how to organise and deliver an event. This event was funded by a grant from Team London, the Mayor of London’s programme to get more Londoners volunteering across the capital.

The young people used their Event Management learning to organise a 5-a-side football tournament for their peers in the following age groups: U10’s, U12’s, U14’s and U16’s. The tournament took place at Mile End Stadium on Thursday 22nd December 2011. A total of 173 young people and 30 teams participated in the tournament.

In the U10’s age group, Acorn FC A were victorious with Vallance Tigers coming runners up. In the U12’s age, Soul FC were victorious with Soul Youth coming runners up. In the U14’s, Bow Juniors A were victorious with Soul Youth B the runners up. And in the U16’s, Soul FC were victorious with Soul Juniors the runners up.

Project Manager, Kamrul Islam said: “This tournament would not have happened if it was not for the hard work and enthusiasm of the volunteers who took the initiative to organise and deliver it. They planned and recruited the teams and worked hard on the day. So well done to them and everyone should thank them for giving time to make a difference in their community.”

The Bangladeshi Football Association’s Team London volunteering programme is supported by the Mayor of London and the Reuben Foundation.
