'Sight Unseen'

Open Wednesday to Sunday, 12noon - 6pm, or by appointment.
Private view: Thursday 12th April, 6 - 9pm.

studio1.1 is delighted to present Belgian artist Yves Beaumont back in the UK for his second solo show in the gallery.

As a figurative painter who stops short just a hairsbreadth away from the abstract, Beaumont fixes the sudden glimpse of light or shadow, the barely noticed instant. Familiar features of the landscape dissolve in paint, as, half-remembered, they flicker in and out of view. His lyrical abstractions impose delicate structures upon what might at first seem a featureless horizon, a blank canvas.

Yet nothing is missed even as the scale switches from flecks of light or leaves on the surface/ground or swathes of sky or paint at the far horizons. Scale is blurringly small or dizzyingly vast by turns. impossible to fix; and the surface extends to an imagined horizon as it simultaneously flattens into waves of paint. Subject and object are exchanged even as we observe them, both bathed in a scintillating light.

Having shown all over Europe and with wotk in many private and public collections (including those of the Belgian Government and the Flemish Parliament), Beaumont makes a welcome return to London and studio1.1.
