Womenfolk... They slave away all day in the kitchen so the family can have a hearty meal, a memorable get together, a lavish Iftar.
They do it with no complaints, little assistance and plenty of hindrance.
They are mothers, sisters, daughters, spouses.
How many of us are conscious of these heroes? Many don’t even get a simple treat at Eid as their non paid role is the accepted norm in many households.
Imagine if any one of these women commanded a salary!
They are the original 00.00 contract workers. They often receive no help, no rewards, no praise, no gratitude, no respect. And we portray ourselves as humanitarians.
Every household member needs to play a role and do their bit. No point being a hero for the world but a total drag on ones own family.
These recommendations are for myself firstly. I am not specifically finger pointing. It’s lockdown and this is now even more prevalent on all communities. In fact to add to this the horror of domestic violence has gone up full throttle.
For the rest of Ramadan, lockdown and beyond let’s all make a large scale effort to split home chores and support one another.
The experience itself would be very fruitful, the self development something money can’t buy and the collective harmony greatly rewarding and something to truly savour.
Charity always begins at home.
Ramadan and lockdown is for everyone - Please remember that!
Any donations for the maternity hospital project from happy sisters reading this are most welcome 🙂
