The Corona Chronicles - A coach’s life!

We have a phenomenal group of youngsters with some seriously impressive sporting acumen.

Personally, I’m enjoying the carefree atmosphere of coaching the little ones again. They’re harder work but we make sessions seriously fun, so unlike the adults there’s very rarely any tantrums, mood swings, back chat, lack of appreciation or abuse.

The role of a grassroots coach isn’t dissimilar to that of a teacher or mentor. We are in a privileged position to positively shape lives and instil sound universal values.

However it can be very hard work and lonely too. You need bulletproof skin too.

The difference in a lot of grassroots community coaching is that the role is often unpaid or has very little financial rewards. There’s zero opportunity for development and often inaccessible due to things like cost.

Most coaches aren’t money oriented so many establishments know they’re onto a winner either way.

We ensure parents are there to watch and appreciate the hard work that goes in from everybody. We welcome the positive feedback we receive and it really brightens our day to see such great progress from our little ones.

I’d take that any day over a foul mouthed, over the hill has been who lacks in conduct, manners and general class.

Here there’s no backbiting, backstabbing, plotting and scheming.

No spoilt Prima Donnas!

And that is remuneration enough!
