Euro 2008: Day 9: Turkiye, Turkiye

In Geneva two shrewd foxes came face to face
Showtime with Karol Buckner and Fatih Terim
Though not sprightly Fatih would win a chase
But Karol swore that he was the more slim

First time ever football sees a unique case unfold
If both teams drew there would be a penalty shootout
Unlikely as team formations were attacking and bold
Quarters beckoned the brave in this heavyweight bout

Speculative Tuncay shot was all Turkey could muster
A dour Red half in the Stade De Geneve
The tall guy featured better, Czech goal adding lustre
But the terrace allegiants in red refused to grieve

Furious Turk protests as Plasil extended the lead
Asik kept waiting to replace Gungor
Mount Erciyes to climb the world and his dog agreed
All except the devoted hardcore

Al Sancak was unfurled with vigour and full might
“Hungry like a wolf” echoed Duran Duran
Emperor Fatih the conqueror was anything but polite
Goal pulled back by the deft touch of Turan

The safest hands in soccer added the cherry to his season
Ball gift wrapped for the lurking Nihat
Unthinkable, would Petr Cech now be tried for treason?
For a fatal fumble in the midst of combat

Outstanding peach by Nihat curled in like a gliding jet
Vulcan off for gifting Koller a bouquet
Tuncay’s earlier dive marked him for the nets
Crescent Stars bid the Locomotive ”gule, gule”
