London FA hold grassroots event

Emdad Rahman

I attended the London FA grassroots event at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

There were a good number of guests including Leon Mann, ex BBC and kick it Out, as well as Charlton and England Under 17 European Champion Joseph Gomez. I have a short interview with the young starlet which I'll post up soon.

A video of Manisha Tailor was shown and there was an inspiring Q&A session followed by group work with her and the likes of Abdal Ahmed and Darren Smith.

Abdal is a member of the London FA's Inclusion advisory Group and he said; "The strength of our grassroots efforts directly impact on football at the highest level. We are always engaging and reaching out to communities and supporting them to access and enjoy football."

Coach Manisha Tailor and I discussed the impact of good mentoring. The FA tutor feels that grassroots football is fundamental in coaching development; "It's where the coaching journey for many, begins. Your views, beliefs, actions and behaviours are moulded by who and what you see.

"Having a mentor definitely helps shape your thinking and vital with grassroots coaching."

Jonathan Mills, the FA Equality Co-ordinator delivered a presentation and outlined the importance issues related to intolerance.

Arsenal Football Club really rolled the ball out and let the participants hold and snap away with the FA Cup.

Kudos to London FA for arranging this event and on my feedback sheet I have requested for further roadshows to be organised to allow grassroots coaches and volunteers like those of us who attended to share views, ideas, expand our knowledge and network.
