*This picture was taken using the timer camera feature and a self made prop. A rather well choreographed snap if I may say so myself!*
We have taken new measures at the Hedgecock Community Centre Foodbank in terms of safety. Food packs are being prepared by a couple of volunteers at a time to practically prevent anyone getting too close. As a rule deliveries are taking place solo and under no circumstances is contact with recipients allowed other than to phone/text to notify that the package is on the doorstep.
Anyone in flats is requested to pick up from downstairs. Anyone housebound and lacking mobility is made an exception within parameters and the discretion of the volunteer.
All contributors go home, strip down - clothes in the washing machine, body in the shower.
Safety is paramount and even with such precautions in place we are not guaranteed safety.
It frustrates me therefore to see people not adhering to rules put in place for our own safety. This could be due to confusion or just pure flagrant disregard towards the rules.
Today we delivered 13 food packs and I’ve received a donation of 84 Fresubin 2kcal - a high energy, high protein sip feed.
After receiving his food pack a happy Rob called to say that community unity and our Blitz spirit will get us through. “With a little bit of self control and discipline Rob!” I muttered back.
He put me in a good mood with that bit of wisdom so I took the scenic route home.
The Hedgecock Community Centre Foodbank is run entirely by community volunteers.
More than anything we appreciate your goodwill, encouragement and any advice you can give us.
