The Corona Chronicles - Crisis Text Milestone

A proud milestone for me as a Crisis Volunteer after engaging 500 texters.

I was introduced to this service by my little sister and after completing my training I have been engaging with people in crisis since December, with issues ranging from suicide, isolation, depression, anxiety, sexual/physical/mental abuse, any painful emotion which needs support.

It’s hugely important that frontline volunteers take time to do things they enjoy, read book, run, walk, cycle, do a word search, engage in a hobby or pastime.

The people around them can help by simply keeping in touch and taking an interest. Beyond that big happy smile and the tough exterior there may be a myriad of emotions simmering beliw the surface of which we have no idea.

People who are frontline usually feel they have to stay strong for the rest. The very least we should do is make them feel valued through a simple text, call, a nice comment - It makes a big difference.

Volunteers are the backbone of community services so well done to all who work tirelessly day in, day out to support friends, family, neighbours, complete strangers.

Shout is the first free 24/7 texting service in the UK for anyone in crisis anytime, anywhere and is available in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Crisis Volunteers like me answer texts from people in crisis, bringing them from a hot moment to a cool calm one through active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning.

If the new normal is hard, or you’re experiencing a personal crisis, unable to cope, and need support, text Shout to 85258.‬
