Suarez creams caged Canaries

Norwich 0-3 Liverpool

Cold-bloodedly raiding possession
Gerrard shadowed and deprived the Fox
Tapping the ball to the Uruguayan
Touch and curl past Ruddy in the box

Chic nutmeg to leave Ward marooned
Slippery surface adding verve to the game
Taking aim and shooting with the right
Euphoric away Kop roared El Pistol’s name

Moment that will stalk the memory
Suarez left Lambert his calling card
At a rain soaked Carrow Road
Executing a breathtaking lob from 40 yards

Norwich v Liverpool: Match facts and trivia

By Emdad Rahman
Original articleKenny Dalglish has proclaimed that Liverpool’s visit to Carrow Road this weekend sums up the contrasting league aspirations and form of both teams this season.

Liverpool dominated the Anfield game, only to see their inability to kill the game leading to a Grant Holt equaliser.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.tv Dalglish said: "It was a mirror image of most of the games we've played there.

"We had many opportunities and either the goalkeeper made a magnificent save or we hit the bar and the post. We had plenty of chances."

Dalglish denied that the FA Cup final is proving a distraction to his squad.

"We'll concentrate on every game we've got before then and try our best to get what we can from them," he said.

"Nobody's happy with the results but we've not been too disappointed with the performances."

Match facts:

-Liverpool have lost nine of their last 15 games, winning a trifling total of three.

-Liverpool’s opponents have been permitted a mere 120 shots on target. This is less than any other Premier League team this season.

-During their last two visits to Carrow Road, the Reds have won both games 2-1.

-The Canaries have conceded just 18 percent of their goals from set pieces. This is the lowest proportion in the Premier League.

-Combative Grant Holt leading the line has ensured that Norwich have scored the most headed goals in the Premier League.

-Relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers are the only team to have picked up less points than the Reds in 2012.

- Kenny Dalglish’s men have suffered some rotten luck this season, smashing opposition goalposts 30 times. This is more than any other Premier League team.

-The Canaries have struck a post seven times, which is one more than Owen Coyle’s Bolton Wanderers on six.

- Paul Lambert’s side have failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 games and won two of their last ten top flight games.

-With a conversion rate of a mere nine percent of shots to goals, Liverpool’s record in this category is the lowest in the Premier League.

-These two sides mustered 16 shots on target between them in the reverse fixture which ended as a 1-1 draw.

'Sight Unseen'

Open Wednesday to Sunday, 12noon - 6pm, or by appointment.
Private view: Thursday 12th April, 6 - 9pm.

studio1.1 is delighted to present Belgian artist Yves Beaumont back in the UK for his second solo show in the gallery.

As a figurative painter who stops short just a hairsbreadth away from the abstract, Beaumont fixes the sudden glimpse of light or shadow, the barely noticed instant. Familiar features of the landscape dissolve in paint, as, half-remembered, they flicker in and out of view. His lyrical abstractions impose delicate structures upon what might at first seem a featureless horizon, a blank canvas.

Yet nothing is missed even as the scale switches from flecks of light or leaves on the surface/ground or swathes of sky or paint at the far horizons. Scale is blurringly small or dizzyingly vast by turns. impossible to fix; and the surface extends to an imagined horizon as it simultaneously flattens into waves of paint. Subject and object are exchanged even as we observe them, both bathed in a scintillating light.

Having shown all over Europe and with wotk in many private and public collections (including those of the Belgian Government and the Flemish Parliament), Beaumont makes a welcome return to London and studio1.1.

The pothole gardener at Milan Design Week‏

Emdad Rahman: Green fingered Steve Wheen has been very busy recently. Commissioned by Lancia, the famed pothole gardener recently travelled to Milan to create a series of installations for the opening of Milan Design Week.

Wheen created 14 gardens which included;

- A fashion garden (with heels of course).
- A music garden (to celebrate the famous Italian composers)
- A mini-art-exhibition garden (to celebrate the wonderful Italian artists)
- A light bulb garden (symbolising the conception of an idea)

He said: “I wasn't sure how my little gardens were going to go down in Milan, and indeed I was quite nervous.

“However, I needn't have been as crowds of people stopped to look at the gardens. One of the favourites was the music garden complete with a lamp, music books and a piano.”

Dudek heroics the greatest Champions League moment

Former Liverpool star Jerzy Dudek will always be remembered for Istanbul heroics

By Emdad Rahman

Original article - It was whilst watching Chelsea's Champions League semi final night of magic at the Nou Camp that my mind wandered back to Istanbul 2005 and the greatest game in Champions League history.

Amongst the many heroes that played that night was one Jerzy Henryk Dudek.

Arsene Wenger had tracked the Polish number one for several years, so many fans were best pleased when Gerard Houllier lured the eccentric stopper from Feyenoord to Anfield in a double swoop with Coventry's rising star Chris Kirkland.

With Kirkland earmarked as a long term prospect, the Rybnik born star was automatically installed as the new No.1 in place of Dutchman Sander Westerveld.

"The Big Pole in Our Goal" enjoyed a tremendous full debut season as Liverpool finished runners up in the Premier League. But, although a brilliant reflex goalie and an outstanding shot stopper, Dudek's lack of concentration at times proved costly.

Second season syndrome kicked in and in December 2002 Dudek's slither through palms and legs blunder against Manchester United led to Diego Forlan scoring. Houllier later revealed that the clanger led to Dudek shedding tears.

Although there was much sympathy from the likes of Houllier and Jamie Carragher, Dudek lost his place to the patient Kirkland. He was not left kicking his heels for long as the injury prone youngster allowed Dudek a way back in a month later.

2005 is the year that Dudek forged himself a place in Anfield folklore. Houllier had left the club and Rafael Benitez had taken over and guided virtually the same team to dizzy heights in the Champions League and eventually the final in Istanbul.

The scene was chaotic - perfect for Dudek. He conceded three unstoppable goals to Carlo Ancelotti's rampaging Milan team. Another 45 minute stroll on the grass and the cup was heading back to Italy. The Milanese lit their victory cigars, though the fat lady had not yet sung.

Dietmar Hamann came on for the second half and what happened during the rest of the game may never be seen at that level of the game again. Dudek's incredible double reflex save from Andriy Shevchenko was the icing of the cake as Liverpool clawed back to 3-3.

He'd warned of the next moment in a prior interview with liverpoolfc.tv. Carragher had briefed him about the legendary antics of Bruce Grobbelaar and Dudek obliged, re-enacting Brucie's 1984 wobbly jelly legs routine from the eternal city of Rome.

He said: "Carra came up to me after extra time and said 'Remember Grobbelaar and the rubbery legs of 84 - and do the same. Dance, do anything, put them off'!"

Shevchenko's nightmare was mercifully ended as his shootout penalty was saved by Dudek. Yes, Liverpool were European champions for the fifth time.

Jamie Carragher added: "It is one of the greatest finals of all time and the save Jerzy Dudek made from Shevchenko at the end was unbelievable.

"I can't believe we've won. He'll be a legend now, not just for the penalties but because of the Shevchenko saves in the game itself. They were unbelievable."

Dudek joined legends Józef MÅ‚ynarczyk and Zbiniew Boniek as Polish European Cup winners. Further fame followed as Liverpool based Trophy Boyz recorded an innovative single titled 'Du the Dudek.'

Spaghetti Legs, who in six seasons played 186 games for Liverpool, dedicated the astonishing win to his fan, Pope John Paul II, a goalkeeper in his youth, who he had met in 2004, presenting the late Pontiff with a souvenir keeper's shirt.

To mark its 50th issue, Champions - the official UEFA Champions League magazine - UEFA.com managed a poll of iconic memories.

Dudek's double save from Shevchenko in the final was voted the Greatest Champions League moment of all time, beating off Zinedine Zidane's resplendent volley against Bayer Leverkusen in 2002 to secure Real Madrid's ninth European Cup, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dramatic final second winner against Bayern Munich in 1999.

Safer Neighbourhood Tournament to take London by storm

Emdad Rahman: The Safer Neighbourhood Tournament (SNT), an exciting community grass roots football tournament has returned for 2012. Now in its tenth year, the celebrated tournament is the brainchild of Stepney & St Dunstan’s member, Councillor Abdal Ullah.

As a contributory member of the London Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA), Abdal Ullah was of the opinion that football was a medium that could be used to effectively unite masses, whilst improving relationships between young people and the police.

What started off as a small community event consisting of half a dozen teams has now grown to become one of London's biggest weekend one day knockout tournaments. This year 72 teams and thousands of spectators will be attending the April footballing bonanza.

The tournament is East London based but has traditionally attracted teams from all over London. This year, Hackney Marshes, the starting point for many of football’s icons will once again be the venue for the knock-out stage of the tournament.

Commenting on the upcoming football festival Abdal Ullah said: “We are very proud of the success of our tournament. This is our 10th year and we have now officially become one of the biggest grassroots football events in London. We gained support from FA and it was an honour to be one of the projects that were highlighted during England’s FIFA World Cup 2018 bid.

“The SNT Cup has support from the Met Police, NHS, TATA, McDonalds, Coco Cola, The Sun newspaper, Kick it Out, and many other local and national organisations, including London 2012.

“In previous years we have secured the FA Cup and Premier League trophy for display at our tournament.

As a special surprise, on Sunday 29th April we will have the Olympic torch on display!
He added: “This being our 10th year and the year of the London Olympics, we are very keen to make the tournament even more special, we are keen to attract teams from all over the country.”

The date for the knock out section is Sunday 29th April at Hackney Marshes, and the final will be played at a Prestigious London Football ground.

Abdal Ullah has also exclusively confirmed that on the day (April 29th) Coca Cola will bring along the Olympic torch for 4 Hours, whilst McDonalds will provide support to the event. And FA Community Shield will be on display from 10 AM till 3 Pm on the day, and there will be a message of support and health tips from Dr Zaf Iqbal, Liverpool FC’s first team doctor.

There will be health promotion events from the East London NHS health team and Safer London Foundation will also be present addressing issues of Community Safety.

Abdal Ullah also confirmed that the “Man of the match” award will be named after 27 year Kelvin Brown, who recently died after collapsing playing football on Hackney Marshes. A veteran’s cup will be named after local MP Jim Fitzpatrick.

The tournament is divided into several age categories - under 16's, over 16s, veterans (over 35) and for the very first time a women’s tournament has also been scheduled with the only Muslim women’s football team taking part. The winning purse is £1000+. Prior to the start of the tournament a live TV show on Channel 9 17th April (SKY 834) 7 :15 PM will feature special guests announcing the tournament draw with the NPower Championship trophy in the studio.

Anyone interested should log on to www.sntcup.com or www.stepneyfc.com for further details, and highlights from previous tournaments.

Dalglish still the right man for Liverpool

The Liverpool view: Kenny Dalglish deserves the backing of all Reds

By Emdad Rahman

Original article. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv Kenny Dalglish told his post-match press conference at the Sports Direct Arena: "We started well enough, passed and moved and looked pretty threatening, but obviously it ended up with a lot of frustration and disappointment.

"I think the frustration and disappointment were a result of the actions Pepe took when he got a deserved red card, and also when Andy (Carroll) came off and went up the tunnel he was disappointed with the way the game's gone, not necessarily for himself but for the team. The frustration takes him up into the dressing room.

"We don't have a problem with people showing their disappointment or frustration, but we need to channel it better than we have done."

With Liverpool misfiring on the league front most of the fierce criticism has been directed towards the man at the helm.

It is interesting to note the levels of loyalty Dalglish inspires amongst Liverpool's global fan base.

There's the majority of the older generation who remember Kenny's heroic playing exploits alongside the greatest players to have worn the red rouge ofLiverpool. These fans have mostly backed Kenny to the hilt and continue to place their trust in him to lead from the front.
The younger fans have no such ties and have no qualms in calling for the exit door ti be shown. The sceptics point out that Dalglish is from a bygone era and unwilling to adapt to the demands of the modern game.

They conveniently forget his managerial achievements, citing an incredible inherited team for 1986, 88, 89 etc and Jack Walker's millions buying the Premiership. Flimsy arguments indeed.

With such a chasm between Liverpool and their rivals it will be noted that a top four finish for this season was a tad too ambitious.

Fenway Sports Group will consider the sentiments of the fans when they plan the next installment of their rebuilding plan for Liverpool. More money is needed and I fully believe that the much maligned Jordan Henderson will go onto become an outstanding midfielder for both club and country.
The new signings have to take their share of the blame after contributing a measly six goals between them this campaign. If funds are tight then Raheem Sterling must be given a chance to stake a claim for the third striker's role.

Kenny won't walk and FSG won't want to make rash decisions to replace him and thus start another lengthy rebuilding process. It's about continuity and support.

The gaffer was spot on about discipline - draws, penalty misses and fluffed chances by millionaires. It's what has cost Liverpool points all season. As Kenny has stated, it's time to stick together if this "crisis" is to be dealt with.

The League Cup has been won and there is a semi-final date with Everton. Win that and the tide will rapidly change. Win the FA Cup and Kenny along with Steve Clarke and Kevin Keen will be hailed football geniuses and the bootroom saviours of the club.

Liverpool FC like to give their managers time. This is a rebuilding process and a long term rather than a short term project. Even though the current run is the worst in 59 years, all it would take is a triumphant FA Cup run to change all that swiftly into the most successful season since 2001.

Striker Luis Suarez has also vowed to fight on to get the club moving back in the right direction.

Liverpool's poor league run actually stretches back to the turn of the year, since when they have collected just eight points in 12 games.

Suarez is determined to battle on. He tweeted: "Difficult moments after the last matches. We must continue to work until the end! YNWA."
Kenny is Liverpool's greatest player. His exploits are pure Roy of the Rovers and though he may rile the media, opposing fans and the sporting establishment he bleeds Liverpool. Nobody understands the club better and it is vital that he is backed to the hilt.

Its like backing a family member, you frown, squirm argue on the roller coaster but you don't give up your support. But there is no way as a fan I’m criticising Dalglish.

As far as I’m concerned he can do no wrong on a football l level and I’m afraid that’s just the way it is. I’m backing Kenny and the boys come rain or shine. I advise all you fellow Reds to do the same.

"I helplessly watched frantic scenes of children and adults who were attending a football match lay injured and dying”

Steve Rotheram MP on Hillsborough and the fight for justice
Interview with Emdad Rahman

Hillsborough was always known as the home of Sheffield Wednesday. With a capacity just short of 40,000 the Owls home ground has hosted World Cup and Euro Championship games.

As one of the country's largest stadiums, and currently the biggest outside the Premiership, Hillsborough was renowned as a much loved neutral venue for cup semis and international clashes. But over the last quarter of a century this much loved stadium has become synonymous with Britain's greatest sporting tragedy.
Steve Rotheram MP was at Hillsborough on 15 April 1989.

He had “journeyed to Sheffield on a coach from Kirby. It was a beautiful spring day. It was gorgeous, fantastic weather.”
The recollections sour and darken thereafter as that gloriously sunny afternoon witnessed the biggest football tragedy ever seen in British history and one of the worst in the world. 96 people lost their lives and 766 were injured. The Taylor Report was the official inquiry into the disaster and concluded that "the main reason for the disaster was the failure of police control."

The findings of the report resulted in the eradication of standing football terraces at football stadiums in both Scotland and England.

As a fan on the day, Rotheram noticed unusually large flocks of fans: “There were no security barriers, not like what was expected at a game of such magnitude, and there were swathes of people congregating.
"I helplessly watched frantic scenes of children and adults who were attending a football match lay injured and dying.

"I was lucky and so were most of my friends and relatives, although it was touch and go with our Lisa who thankfully survived.

"96 were not to make it back home and since that day they and others traumatised by the events of that day have been scapegoats for over twenty years."

“I was seven rows back opposite to the Leppings lane Stand. It was the days before mobile phones and when we were able to leave the stadium we joined other fans in queuing up outside terraced houses where the kind locals allowed us to use their phones. I made a very brief call just to tell my mum that I was ok.
"23 years on and absolutely nobody has been held to account for this human tragedy."

I ask the Liverpool Walton MP about the infamous “3:15 pm cut off time” - the time the official Coroner said that all 96 supporters were dead. Rotheram has spoken extensively about this controversial cut off point and coined the phrase – “get out of jail card” in reference to the authority's using this information as a statement of fact. It means that though the situation was tragic not many of the deceased suffered beyond 3:15pm.

He said; “3:15pm was the cutoff point the coroner said that all the victims were dead. This has been proven to be untrue.

“There were 42 ambulances, but it didn’t matter because according to the authorities everyone was dead. The 3:15pm cut off point almost exonerates the emergency services. We are definitely aware that Kevin Williams was witnessed as being alive at 3:37 pm and 3:54 pm and nobody has been held accountable to this day.”

There have been accusations of much silence in the commons. Rotheram has a slightly propitious viewpoint; “I do think a lot more needed to be done then, now and over the years. There have been debates. The Thatcher government believed that the people of Merseyside and Liverpool would give up and there has been a failure by successive governments to address Hillsborough.

“Then a great opportunity came through the medium of e-petitions and we found ourselves in the position where for the very first time a commons debate was triggered by a government online petition."

There are voices who call for Prime Minister Cameron to apologise for Hillsborough. Rotheram agrees; “Prime Ministers have apologised for regrettable incidents that have occurred whilst they weren’t on watch. David Cameron apologised for Bloody Sunday. There is a precedent that Prime Minister’s issue apologies if wrong has been done – And here we have a monumental example of grave injustice and wrongdoing. We are waiting on the findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report, which is due out in a few months and I will then consider pressing the PM for an apology.”

Four days after the Hillsborough disaster The Sun newspaper, in a twisted attempt to boost sales added a further blow to the bereaving residents of Liverpool by conjuring up a mammoth lie. Under the stewardship of Kelvin Mackenzie it blamed Liverpool fans for the deaths of their fellow fans and printed the gruesome headline:

“The Truth.
Some fans picked pockets of victims
Some fans urinated on the brave cops
Some fans beat up PC giving kiss of life.”

While families of the bereaved and survivors of the disaster were still coming to terms with what happened four days earlier, they were hit with another blow - they were being blamed for killing and disregarding their own.

There has been a Merseyside boycott of the Sun since that day. “I only apologised because Rupert Murdoch told me to,” said editor Kelvin Mackenzie.” I wasn’t sorry then and I’m not sorry now because we told the truth.”

I have struck a deep nerve and Rotheram reacts with scolding admonishment. His response is fiery and passionate; “People have to understand the damage the headline of The Sun newspaper did to our city.
"Instead of investigating allegations and evidences, The Sun under salacious headlines sported a front page banner proclaiming ‘The Truth.’ It accused Liverpudlians at Hillsborough of robbing the dead, urinating on the Police and attacking emergency services that were trying to aid the stricken. These accusations were all false and untrue. Kelvin Mackenzie diverted attention - he lied several times.”

Kenny Dalglish mentions an encounter he had with The Sun editor in his autobiography. Mackenzie asked Dalglish; “How can we correct the situation?” Dalglish said; “You know that big headline ‘The Truth’? All you have to do is put ‘We Lied’ in the same size. Then you might be alright.” The advice sought was not acted upon. Mackenzie said; “I cannot do that.” Dalglish replied; “Well, I cannot help you then,” and put the phone down.

“Rupert Murdoch is responsible for what his paper did to the grieving people of Liverpool in 1989," added Rotheram. "They thought they were untouchable and over many years their conduct became more brazen, arrogant, institutionalised and pushed the boundaries and laws of society. They tried to recreate the rules for themselves. The phone hacking scandal is a clear example of how far these brash and conceited people thought they could go unchallenged.”

Rotheram will continue to fight for justice; “All I have ever wanted to do was represent the ordinary fan. I want to do what any Liverpool fan would do and will continue to push the government to recognise all the ramifications of 15 April 1989.

“Can’t you guys just draw a line and move on?” is a common question on the lips of many people. Rotheram smiles; “I once came across a survey on injustice that refers to a specific point - that its takes a 25 year cycle to settle an injustice. The people of Liverpool suffered a terrible injustice in 1989. 96 individual souls were lost. These people had lives to live and futures ahead of them.

“We cannot begin to imagine the pain and sorrow of those who lost their nearest and dearest at Hillsborough. Only those who have tragically lost a loved one in such circumstances would understand the enormity of the injustices suffered by these people.”

Rotheram does not support talk surrounding the return of standing terraces at football grounds; “With regards to safe standing I believe that our football culture is different to other European nations. I am against standing at football events. Standing also affects the enjoyment of younger fans, the infirm and familes. Football fans pay for and have an allocated space, and if we stay within the confines afforded then things are less likely to go wrong at a match. In the UK we have a good safety record and I want it to continue for a very long time.”

The case of 15-year-old Hillsborough victim Kevin Williams, from Formby was subjected to a Parliamentary debate in February after more than 100,000 people signed an online petition calling for a fresh inquest into his death. This was after his mother Anne Williams uncovered new evidence.

Rotheram was at the debate; “Kevin Williams debate was well attended and many took note of the issues. We asked the Attorney general to look at matters afresh as well as considering the findings of an in depth study to be published later this year - The Hillsborough Independent report.”

The suspicion held by families, friends and supporters is that the 3.15 pm cut-off point was a convenient way of avoiding evidence that showed that lives could have been saved if ambulances had been allowed on the pitch and if police officers had been told to help people out of the Leppings Lane pens. Many thousands of people believe that a new coroner’s inquest would allow the presentation of evidence to show that Kevin was still alive after 3.15 pm and that his life might have been saved had different decisions been taken and a call was made for a fresh inquest into Kevin Williams death in February.

In the presence of Chair Anna Main, Rotheram presented to the proceedings: “We are here to argue the case for the Attorney-General to review the overwhelming evidence relating to the unlawful killing of a young man—Kevin Williams. Some people have asked why we are back here again, following the success of the absolutely enthralling debate in the House on 17 October. It is simply because there are specific questions that still require specific answers. If there was a case in any other walk of life in which the police and members of the emergency services had altered statements, fabricated stories and covered their own backs, there would quite rightly be public outrage. Well, there is public outrage. The public of Merseyside and far beyond have been outraged for 22 and a half years.

“For Anne Williams and her family, the backdrop to their individual tragedy is the same as that for the other 95 families—it is the dignified pursuit of justice.

“If we look not just at Kevin’s case, but at the disaster that took place that day, it is clear that had it not been for the quick action of Liverpool fans, the tragedy would have involved way more than 96 deaths and could have involved many hundreds of deaths. Liverpool fans acted, while those charged with our safety that day froze, and that should never be forgotten.

“Today, we have heard that the cause of Kevin’s death should be re-examined. As we have heard, his mother is yet to pick up his death certificate, because the cause of death is wrong. Imagine a country that has so far allowed a broken-hearted mother to wait 23 years to find out the reasons why her young son died at a football match, when she knows it was not the result of traumatic asphyxia.

“The e-petition stated that the overwhelming evidence makes it quite clear that the Attorney-General needs to look afresh at this issue to reach the logical conclusion that Kevin was not dead at 3.15 pm, but died subsequently, so that he can deem that it is right to grant a new coroner’s inquest.

“The families have fought their dignified campaign for more than two decades, with an eternal flame burning bright—the flame of hope. Kevin’s mother, Anne, has hope in her heart today. She has been joined on her heart-breaking journey by the families of the other 95 victims of Hillsborough, some of whom I left earlier at a different venue. My hope is that we can finally get justice for those who lost their lives and the families who continue to mourn them. Only then will the families of the 96 be able to put their loved ones to rest.”

Attorney General Dominic Grieve said; “…No one can fail to be moved by what happened on that fateful day in April 1989 that still resonates so powerfully among so many people. That is perfectly apparent to me having listened to the debate today and having read the debate—I was not able to be present—that took place in October. I found it illuminating in helping me to understand the concerns, which have been further voiced today.

“I am only too well aware of the strength of feeling that this House holds about the tragic and needless deaths of so many men, women and children. Not only did that day—a day that promised only the entertainment of an FA Cup semi-final—go so badly wrong, the pain was undoubtedly compounded by unforgivable calumnies published about those who tried to help the injured and the dying. As a man and as a Minister, I share those feelings. As Attorney-General, in which role I am here today, I cannot let sympathy alone sway any decision I may reach. As Attorney-General, in performing this function, as I explained earlier, I act wholly independently of Government and must reach my decision based on the evidence alone. What I can promise the House, and do promise, is that I will approach this case with an open mind and, if I conclude that the evidence supports an application to the court, I will ensure that an application is made.”

Hillsborough, the closing of ranks, lies and cover ups are a blight on our society. It’s been too long. It’s time to expose the lies and hold individuals to account. It’s high time for justice.

The Islamic world (Room 34) The British Library

The John Addis Gallery

7th century AD – present

The term ‘Islamic’ is used in Room 34 to define the culture of peoples living in lands where the dominant religion is Islam. The displays explore Islamic faith, art, calligraphy and science, and Islam’s prominence amongst world cultures.

Objects such as gilded glass mosque lamps, tiles featuring calligraphic decoration, metalwork and early scientific instruments give a geographical and chronological view of the history and art of the Islamic lands. There is also a changing display of works on paper.
