The Corona Chronicles - Homeless lockdown!

Just the one medicine drop today with an undiaturnws hour of cycling.

With the global pandemic in full flow it has really created a real urgency amongst the people to reach out and help those in their communities who are the most vulnerable and needy.

I have friends who have hotels who are now hosting homeless friends, know of pensioners who are sacrificing big parts of their allowances to help those “less fortunate” than themselves, kids handing over their pocket money and businesses donating huge amounts of cooked and uncooked food items as gifts to their patrons during these dark times.

We have seen many so called social commentators disappear into the woodwork whilst others continue to provocate, pour scorn and cause division amongst communities from the safety of their living rooms.

The sad and scary thing is the sheer number of people buy into their narratives.

Our East End Covid-19 Support Network team recently received a van full of foods from Morrison’s in Highbury and today I was pleased to deliver a job lot of chocolate to Brocklebank Lodge Homeless Hostel.

We are grateful to branch manager Abu Tahir for arranging this all.

The government said it wanted all rough sleepers housed within the weekend there are still many who are unable to follow lockdown rules.

Despite more than 1,000 rough sleepers being accommodated in hotels there are still almost that many in shared spaces and on the streets.

Accommodating homeless citizens in budget hotels may actually be appointed towards helping deal with homelessness in the future.
