The Corona Chronicles - Ramadan packing!

With the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan a mere two days away it has been quite an eventful afternoon and evening for us. The Hedgecock Community Centre Foodbank team spent the lunch break preparing Ramadan packs for singles and families.

Three of us prepared, packed and delivered 21 packages to isolating, elderly and vulnerable residents. These packs contained fresh chicken, onions, potatoes, kebabs, samosas, chick peas and was topped off with a massive box hamper of goodies provided by our partners at Team MC.

This years Ramadan will be the strangest and most unique one in history what with lockdown and isolation in full flow.

It will however offer opportunities for people to connect on an altogether different spiritual level. Families will be fasting together, eating together and hopefully sharing chores together.

Each household will be responsible for conducting their own congregational activities, acts of worship and prayers.

There will be time for much reflection indeed.

Eid will most probably be a surreal experience too with no community fanfare, no collective Eid prayers and certainly no family get togethers.

But, it is what it is and we will all get through this period just as we have always done. By being resilient, forthright and stubborn.
