Not sure this pink book - The Mum Hunt by Gwyneth Rees goes with the rugged, rough and ready image but it sure bought a smile to one happy little girl today.
#bookbikelondon is still operating during the pandemic, albeit at a safe distance and it’s definitely one of my most favourite projects, simply because it gives so much pleasure to the donor, the courier and the recipient all in one.
You simply can’t beat the freedom of two wheels and the magic of a good book.
According to Crisis on average, homeless people die at just 44 years old.
Not all homeless people are down and out. Most live very normal lives with a minority who have difficult backgrounds, a history of being known to law enforcement, have mental health problems, possibly a history of substance misuse.
So as you can very well see, the current pandemic presents a whole host of problems with a significant number of homeless friends unable to isolate or are continuously flout social distancing rules.
It’s common knowledge that respiratory conditions are common amongst rough sleepers. If a night shelter is overcrowded then how do the residents follow self isolation guidance?
The outbreak will also undeniably push those on the brink into full blown homelessness.
It was a pleasure for One Third Homeless Soup Kitchen to partner up with Royal Catering & Events to feed homeless friends at Brocklebank Lodge Homeless Hostel. They’ve been amazing with their support of the work we do and the team want nothing more than to just use their strengths to feed the community.
The residents there are really amongst the nicest. Abu Bakr and John sprinted up to grab their packs. They insisted on photobombing us. “Keep the distance boys,” I instructed with humour.
I guess you can’t be too paranoid about the Coronavirus.
